Literacy materials are put to use every morning in my Kindergarten classroom. In both small groups and with the teacher, students practice their letters, sight words, and emergent reading skills during literacy centers. The materials I've selected will make for highly engaging and developmentally appropriate activities to build literacy skills. Specifically, a listening center will provide students an opportunity to be read to multiple times throughout the day. This gives them more time to fall in love with books and to build their comprehension skills which are not only important for reading, but for other subject areas. Being able to provide my students with books at their specific reading level, like the emergent reading level pack chosen, is critical to their reading development. This way, they can practice Kindergarten skills with words they are able to read. These young learners will be so engaged while building their sight words with Play-doh stamps and practicing beginning sounds with hands-on materials. I can't begin to explain what these materials would mean to my students. They would be so excited (even though that's hard to beat!) to spend their morning learning all about literacy with all of the materials requested in this project.
