Thank you for taking an interest in my project. The request I have made involves the use of electronic components to build models the demonstrate student application of concepts but also develop skills in troubleshooting, problem solving and teamwork. It also involves inquiry labs where students study natural phenomena and explore solutions to global problems. These activities are highly engaging because it uses a project base learning approach with hands on practice based on STEM principles. The electronic materials will be used by students to create a model of an atom using paper circuits. The students will create 3 circuits with individual switches that will light up each subatomic particle. This concept will teach them about the atom as well as to how electronic circuits use electrons to power the circuit. Additionally, these same materials will be also used by students to develop models of renewable energy, such wind, solar, battery and hydrological by adding motors, generators and mini solar panels that will produce energy. These learning approach will address standards: HS-ESS1-3. Communicate scientific ideas about the way stars, over their life cycle, produce elements. HS-ESS3-2. Evaluate competing design solutions for developing, managing, and utilizing energy and mineral resources based on cost-benefit ratios. HS-ESS3-4.* Evaluate or refine a technological solution that reduces impacts of human activities on natural systems. HS-ETS1-2. Design a solution to a complex real-world problem by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable problems that can be solved through engineering. HS-ETS1-3. Evaluate a solution to a complex real-world problem based on prioritized criteria and trade-offs that account for a range of constraints, including cost, safety, reliability, and aesthetics as well as possible social, cultural, and environmental impacts. All activities are inclusive of all students regardless of ability or language proficiency.
