Technology has taken over the world and we need to put it to the best use in our classrooms. Just placing a computer in front of students does not accomplish this task. There are many subscriptions that can help create engaging and interactive lessons that will involve students in the learning process. One of the best is Nearpod. With this subscription service I can create digital lessons that will allow students to engage with science animations, collaborate with one another, answer assessment questions, ask questions, and take quizzes. The lessons created with this product will be interactive, immersive and collaborative. I can also track student progress, answer questions and give feedback. This kind of digital tool is essential for getting students ready for 21st century careers and our state's high-stakes MCAS test. We need to get our students comfortable with technology before sending them into the world of work. Using computers needs to be second nature to today's high school graduates, however, many of the students at our school (and in my classes in particular) do not have computers at home. Therefore, it is essential that we integrate computers into our lessons as much as possible. Digital lessons created on Nearpod are an engaging and effective way to teach physics content, and to increase students' computer literacy. Our state assessment (MCAS) exam is now completely computerized. We have an obligation to help our students become practiced in answering the type of questions that they will be asked on the exam in the same form in which they will be asked. Shmoop is a digital platform particularly suited for preparing students for state exams. Shmoop would be helpful in providing online content to prepare students for both physics classroom assessments and the physics MCAS exam.
