The students in my kindergarten class want a place and a spot in the classroom that belongs to them. They want to feel included in each activity. They participate and help the teachers out whenever possible. They are children who are interested in learning and they enjoy sharing what they have learned with others. Most of these children come from low income, single parent,and/or unemployed households. The K-2 school that these students attend is a Title-1 school that is family centered. We have about 340 students and most of the teachers know someone in their students' families. Some of the teachers are teaching the grandchildren of the children they have taught or the siblings and/or cousins of students we have had in the past. The students stay at our school for 3 years. So, we are able to watch them grow and as a staff, we become familiar with the special needs in their lives.
