Healthy and nutritious snacks in the Wellness Center are an integral part to supporting out students' needs. The majority of our students are students of color from low-income, working-class families. They often come to school on an empty stomach which can lead to emotional distress, irritability, lack of energy, or stomach aches while they are trying to learn. Snacks such as granola bars, whole nuts, and pretzels allow us to alliviate their hunger while also modeling healthy eating habits that will fuel them for life. Furthermore, food is often a universal way we connect with and care for those around us. When students find out they can get a snack here, their face light up and and smiles start to appear. Snacks help us connect with and encourage students to come back for that deeper emotional support both within the center as well as during outreach. During passing periods, we offer water, hand sanitizer, lotion, sanitary napkins, and snacks as well as smiles and encouraging words. Your donations will go straight to the bellies of San Francisco students as they strive to achieve their dreams! With gratitude, Ms. Natalia
