I choose flexible seating because it is something that is visually inviting to a class and because it provides alternative seating. Flexible seating is allowing students to move around the classroom to do work. Flexible seating can mean having bean bags to read on instead of regular chairs. It could also mean having the ability to lay down in a clean area and read in a corner. This is something my students need because many are living with multiple family members. Flexible seating is beneficial because it gives students the ability to choose what they want. Students then choose what seating works best for them and thus produce better work. It also allows for movement and helps those students who are energetic. Currently I have stations where my students rotate to do work they choose. But I must do rotations to allow everyone to use some of the flexible seating because I don't have enough. With the help of the items requested, my students will now have the ability to choose on their own seating instead of having limited rotation time. This will be extremely beneficial for students because they will feel in charge of their education and take more ownership. In addition, flexible seating is just what is needed for my energetic kids. The comfy cushion seats and the beanbag chair will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options that can provide quiet reading areas. Or they can provide an area to simply enjoy because many of my students live in shared homes and possibly do not have that luxury.
