My students are autistic, at various levels on the spectrum. I want to plan lessons where they can combine their Reading, Writing and Math skills with functional living skills and working with food is a great way to do this. However, we are in need of a refrigerator in our classroom to store refrigerated items that will help them achieve their objectives in a hands-on way and learn skills that they can use at home, in school and/or in an employment setting. For example, my students can read recipes, create a lunch menu to cook or follow and practice directions on proper storage of leftovers. In addition, they can use their Math skills to measure ingredients or sell the food they make to teachers to develop money skills as they fundraise. Having a refrigerator will help my students learn and develop life long skills and at the same time have fun doing so. Thank you!
