Students with Dyslexia need more than just a pencil and a piece of paper to learn. If given the right tools and taught the right methods they can learn and thrive in the educational environment. Teaching students methods on how to read and do a daily task with Dyslexia is a huge part of growing them as learners and setting them up for success in their adult life. Dyslexia is a neurological disorder that never goes away, they just learn methods to be able to read. Most people who have been diagnosed with Dyslexia are right brain dominant, which means that is the side of the brain that controls your creativity, non-verbal, symbols and images just to name a few. The left side of the brain is the side that controls language, patterns/order, forms, and strategies. This is where the iPad Pro and pencil will be used in my classroom. I want to provide other resources to tap into the multi-sensory approach of teaching so learning and memory can take place. The iPad Pro will be used in a variety of ways in the classroom to provide resources, apps, and tools to help my students find what works best for them. Brainstorming and idea maps apps will be taught as a way to write a complete paper and to get their thoughts all out on paper. Students who have Dyslexia struggle with organizing their thoughts and the sequencing of information. Brainstorming and idea maps will help them get random ideas and turn them into sentences on a paper. iBooks is another app that will be used frequently. This app allows text to speech, font size and style selection, page color control, bookmarking, note-making. All of the functions help students and sets them up for success when trying to read!
