Theatre teaches a little bit about every area: math, science, foreign languages, music, history, psychology, sociology, physical education, language arts, electronics, color theory, business, technology, and economics. Sound engineering combines both the creativity and collaboration of theatre as well as STEM elements. Students will learn how to find, mix, and create their own sound effects and music. They will learn the functions of auxiliary, pan, EQ, trim, power, and snakes as well as the different types of microphones and what they can do. Being hands on with these elements and allowing students to experiment provides a richer experience than merely looking at pictures and hearing explanations. Just as students can't learn about math without practicing it, students can not learn about sound without having equipment with which to work.
