I am seeking resources that will continue the level of creativity and love of learning in a way that promotes STEM learning. For many of our students, hands on projects and the ability to converse with their friends is a perfect match. Once they have completed their homework assignments from class, they can engage in the activities that will satisfy their interests! If learning can happen during their school day, who says it can't happen in aftercare? The Lego Community Starter set is one of my favorite resources in this project. Despite the moments when you step on them barefoot, they are a great way to tap into student creativity. With the Lego Community Starter Kit, students in all grade levels can work together to build a community of citizens with scenery to match. Through this process, they are able to engage in the ways that citizens make contributions to their community. The Creative Lego Brick set will inspire early childhood students on the ways that people contribute to their community while strengthening their fine motor skills for creativity. Many of the resources being requested may even spark students interest in the upcoming science fair. For example, I am looking forward to student reactions from the Tin Can Robots. Working in teams, students will be able to learn about the benefits of recycling by transforming a can of soda into an actual moving robot. The directions are easy to follow and I am more than positive that they are going to utilize this first. By exposing students to STEM learning in aftercare, students can view learning from a different lens that supports their interests. These resources may produce future scientists, engineers, and more! We're really hoping that you will be able to bring STEM learning to our aftercare program!
