Scholastic News is a great tool to spark student interest in discoveries, the environment, culture, elections and so much more! Current events and nonfiction is what students will use in their real world reading. Kids love to read fun or scary stories, but as they grow, they also need the reading skills to analyze and comprehend nonfiction texts. Scholastic News is bursting with photographs, colorful pictographs and charts. I've used these magazines to teach reading basics like text features and main idea. But the kids come away with a better understanding of what's going on in the world and in their own backyard.
