Our school district has recently consolidated with two other school districts in the county. As expected, there were those who disagreed with the consolidation and have thus moved on with their professional careers. I am a first year teacher and very excited to finally have my name on the door of the classroom. I would have never thought in a million years that I would become a teacher. Teaching had always been a fear for me because I did not want to fail a child in his/her opportunities to learn. My intentions have always been to support the children in our community primarily outside of school. My experience in the district through volunteering and substituting, has now given me that confidence and allowed me to integrate the classroom with fresh ideas and endless possibilities to educate the children that our school serves. With the desolate need of teachers, I have chosen to take on the this challenge and be a beacon in the classroom. However, my business degree did not totally prepare me for such a dare. The iPad will allow me to improve my teaching and learn how to prepare technology based lessons for maximum student academic performance. The iPad will also provide adequate time, convenience, and mobility for professional development without taking away from student instruction. As an educator, I realize that professional development is an ongoing process and everyday there's something new to be learned by both the students and teacher. My ultimate goal from my training is to eliminate student disengagement in the classroom.
