In a middle school math class, students need to know that their is room for error and that is where the LEARNING HAPPENS! When students have the opportunity to write on whiteboard tables which easily erase, the fear of mistakes leaves the back of their mind. During the last school year, students were scared to ask for help in the distance learning space and struggled with fear and anxiety around many new topics they were learning at home. Math Anxiety rose with students, parents and teachers as the pandemic kept us distanced. In my class, I want to encourage students to try and make errors along the way so we can all learn from our mistakes. The beauty of whiteboard tables is that students feel more comfortable trying new problems and teachers or peers can easily see and help each other out when mistakes are made. Mistakes are also much easier to fix because of the impermanent nature of the whiteboard pen and desk surface.
