I'm blessed to be in a combined classroom/lab space with workstations. I encourage cooperative learning, I incorporate many labs and activities into my curriculum, and my students enjoy working in groups around the lab stations. My problem is that I only have about half the number of stools I need for each student to have his or her own seat. When there isn't enough proper seating, the students will sit on the lab tables, try to take the few stools I do have from each other, or be distracted because they're forced to stand. I believe that having enough stools for all of my students will help the kids focus and be more comfortable during their work or lab time.
