I would love to add books to my classroom library that showcase the diversity within the Coffee Corner Classroom. I try to instill into my students the love of reading, and finding the right book is key. Finding the 'right' book for a student involves finding them a character that they can connect with, by including someone that looks like them. This Donors Choose Project would provide my students with both the chapter books and picture books, that would allow my students to connect with characters because they can find someone who shares a commonality with them and even looks like them. This project would allow my students to see themselves within the pages of a book, find that connection, and fall in love with reading.
