The students of our California community are Hispanic, Arabic, Caucasian, and African American. They range from middle class to poverty level. They are smart and energetic kids that just want to learn and have fun. We are a title-1 school with hard working parents who love their children. Our school is K-6 and we have approximately 900 students enrolled. Sports programs have been reinstated and we have an art and music program this year. Keeping kids engaged and excelling in academics is always a challenge. Our community has an increasing gang problem. Our hope is to keep kids off the streets, active, and involved in positive experiences after school. We have seen a growing interest among parents who are supporting the students at their games and practices. We are seeing more parent volunteers this year and we hope to keep this momentum going.
