We are hoping to make our "mockingbirds" fly through use of their own copies of the text To Kill a Mockingbird. Our school has limited resources to provide enough copies of our core texts. One of the classics we teach in our English I courses is To Kill a Mockingbird. We have only one set of books, about 30 copies, for the 8 sections we teach. Nearly 200 freshmen will be reading this text in our course this year. This lack of copies makes it difficult for teachers to be able to teach this text in the course of the year. These books will help us have materials within our district's guidelines. In this novel, they will be able to follow a female character as she grows into a mature and strong young lady. She will watch her town experience racism, and social and gender prejudice. She herself will realize how important protecting the innocent truly is.
