An interactive notebook (INB) helps students in their understanding and learning of biology. As students transition back into the classroom, the INB and technology resources will help us all stay organized. Engagement and interactivity in learning biology is key. The INB gives students the opportunity to use both their left and right brains to remember the concepts. Incorporating both sides of the brain helps them in long term understanding. Biology and the cumulative end-of-course exam (EOC) is required for all public high school students in HI. The INB helps students stay organized all year and review/study for the EOC without having to dig through their bags or under their bed for previous work. The Ipad will help me facilitate their learning as I walk through the classroom. Many students struggle with reading and vocabulary; the Ipad provides me with another opportunity to teach them biology concepts quickly. ELL learners and SPED students often have difficulties with textbook wording and/or examples; the Ipad will allow both me and the student to research these concepts at a level that they can understand. The Ipad and pencil will provide us both with the opportunity to research a concept and see the relevance in it with something they're familiar with. For example, many students have grown up fishing and hunting; making those relevant connections with images from the Ipad and pencil will help them make the correlation.
