My Kindergarten students are excited to come to school and love learning. However, it is often difficult for them to sit without wiggling and to stay focused. Traditional classroom tables, chairs and carpets are not very comfortable nor do they create an inviting learning environment.
Flexible seating offers more appealing options so students can choose the best spot for their needs. This type of seating helps students to stay calm and to be focused. Comfortable students are more at ease and can be more productive. Additionally, choice is a powerful tool to motivate young learners. During independent work times my students can choose to work in a variety of locations such as different tables, sitting or lying on the floor with a clip board or sitting on the library cushions. I have noticed that students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
I have selected products that will help my students by giving them additional seating options. Flex space wobble cushions allow students to wiggle while sitting on the floor or on a chair. These cushons are textured on both sides and students can choose which surface they prefer. Currently, we have only 1 cushion and many students are interested in trying it. The soft seats are also comfortable and still allow some movement. They are very portable and can easily be used in many areas of the room. Some students may prefer their texture over the wobble cushion. The comfy floor seats will allow for additional comfortable floor seating. They can be used in the library or in independent work areas.
