As an elementary school, we need your support to purchase age-appropriate and culturally relevant tools as our clinicians support students and families heal. Unlike traditional talk therapy, our students express themselves best while playing! Our current therapy room has two chairs, a desk, and an empty shelf. A small sofa is needed for children and caregivers to have a comfortable place to sit. The space requires multiple tools such as a sand tray, dollhouse, play kitchen, clay, instruments, books, and art materials in order for the child to guide treatment and process the thoughts and feelings they experience. The main modality for treatment that our clinicians use is child-centered non-directed play therapy. In order to support the various needs and interest of our children, our space needs the toys, storage, and furniture in our project so we have a range of options for our kids. Your support will ensure that our clinicians have the basic tools needed to support students process their thoughts and feelings. The tools needed will create a safe and nurturing space. Clinicians at our site include myself, our School Psychologist, and clinical interns from community-based organizations (CBOs) in the neighborhood. I have witnessed firsthand what the power of play therapy can have on a child and their family. Please consider supporting my project!
