As we work to transition to student centered classrooms giving choices is a big part of that transition. I have already gotten rid of desks in my classroom so students feel more at home. Having a choice of some comfortable chairs will move my classroom even more into making it a community where students will feel free to share and collaborate. By modeling choice and accommodations in my classroom I can encourage future teachers to accommodate their students in their future classrooms. A student who may not be comfortable in close proximity to other students may feel more comfortable in a chair away from the table.
