This is my second year in this classroom. I inherited the current classroom carpet which has obviously exceeded its' life expectancy. Also, it seats only 20 students. Last year, I had 25 students all year long. Currently, I have 28 students on my roster. 26 have been showing up regularly. This is causing a stressful and inequitable situation. Who do I assign the carpet squares to? All the students want to sit on one. In spite of reminders to walk in the classroom, some are racing to get a carpet square during the transitions. This is unsafe. Also, students sitting close together are being easily distracted by their neighbors. A Place for Everyone Classroom Carpet for 30 Kids will solve this inequitable situation. All students appreciate their own space for learning. In my opinion, students will listen more attentively and be less distracted by their neighbors if they had their own carpet square. Student engagement will improve which will result in more student learning.
