By giving my students the ability to dissect these animals they will get to see first hand what the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates are as well as seeing what organs inside a human look like (we are using cats as they are a great comparative for this). This is an extraordinary experience for my students that are interested in biological and/or medical careers. After this experience they are better prepared for the test and to continue their work in the biological sciences or medical careers. Students that have done the dissection come back and tell me how much they appreciate the ability to do it, it is always a highlight of our class.
