Something as simple as a printer that is accessible to many students is not available at my school in Southwest Detroit. In order for my students to be competitive with other children in the suburbs, they need technology. The printer and its paper and ink supplies will be used for them to publish their research papers, do peer editing, print math stories, as well as allow me to provide resources that would otherwise be difficult to print. The timer will also help us keep pace in a fast-paced curriculum designed to expose the students to many grade-level complex texts with engaging activities. In summer training, the presenters stressed the importance of staying on time with each activity. This timer will allow me to do that, while also giving the students the ability to monitor their own pace and develop time management skills.
