I need an acoustic guitar that I can keep in my classroom to play relevant songs to my students and allow them to share relevant songs as well. Beatles songs often have strong imagery to discuss, and the sound of the music has an impact on that. We can and will use them and other artists to explore the impact of tone and sound. Music has charms to soothe the savage beast, but also the ability to stay in the mind and recall important ideas, memories and events. When I incorporate music into my lesson, my students learn more quickly and with more energy. Songs often come from poems, and we can explore the connection between music and literature profoundly with a classroom guitar, to be played by students or instructor. I will play songs and sing them, and then ask students to discuss or write responses as to how the music, the sound, changed their perception of the piece.
