My project is to incorporate more social-emotional learning and coping strategies among my students. Many of my students have a learning disability, autism, health impairment, and/or a psychiatric disorder. Therefore, it can be harder for them to pick-up on and learn skills that most kids learn through their daily interactions with peers and adults. The items I am asking for are all designed to help facilitate social-emotional learning for special needs students. My kiddos are not one size fits all; they are unique and their education needs to be tailored to them on an individual basis. The play therapy items I have requested will be used to teach students self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. For example, in a group the Playing CBT Therapy Game will be used to improve social skills, emotional regulation, self-control and self-resilience. This method of play based learning allows for a fun and safe means of exposure to emotions and related thought processes. As the saying goes, there can be no learning when one's emotions are churning. Your donation will not only help these students socially, emotionally, and/or behaviorally, it will ultimately help with academic success! Research has indicated social-emotional learning can increase students’ academic performance, improve classroom behavior, increase students' ability to manage stress and depression, as well as better attitudes about themselves, others, and school. With your help, we can make a difference in our community, school, and a child's life.
