In 5th grade, we study the planets and what makes each of them unique. Who knows if one of the students will go into astrophysics or Earth Science which will help our planet escape the dire warnings of global warming. Our trip will inspire making our own Solar System models and make them as beautiful as the models seen at the observatory. The state of the art planetarium shows students what they cannot see with the naked eye, here in Los Angeles, because of light pollution. Awareness of our own place in the universe is a humbling, yet inspirational moment in everyone's lives. I want to give that opportunity to my students.
