Being a brand-new teacher, I am working hard to build a classroom library from scratch. This project includes a wide selection of both non-fiction and fictional books at varying levels. My resource room is a combination of three different grades: kindergarten, first, and second graders. I would love to have enough books for students to have the freedom to pick from a selection of leveled books, in order to encourage excitement and individuality around reading. But, of course, a great reader needs a great place to read! I am here to provide accommodations for my readers so that they are able to access the amazing books in this project. This includes having a soft and comfortable environment (carpeted), that allows for necessary fidgets that allow students to attend to what they are reading more easily. Students will be able to silently bounce their knee in their chairs, switch positions on a carpet (lay down, sit criss-cross, etc), and cover themselves with a weighted blanket in order to find relief and calm as they improve their reading skills.
