I have selected a wide variety of books that will motivate and capture various student interests and levels. The books that I've selected are sorted by reading levels and area of interest. It is so important that first graders are exposed to books that they love, but also books that they have the ability to read! Students in my classroom will have access to our classroom library on a daily basis, which will build not only their self-esteem in learning but also their reading fluency and independence. In addition to the classroom literacy library, I've selected a handful of books and tools that will serve as social emotional lessons for our class as they arise. I've selected books that touch the topics of bullying, self-regulating emotions, bringing attention to self-awareness having ultimately the goal of helping to raise empathetic and kind humans. I always love to have books on hand so that I can grab a book as a situation arises. Children are amazed that there are books that pertain to their problem or situation, and these types of books transfer to both literacy comprehension and social and emotional growth. At the end of the day, it takes a village to raise a child! We want the children of our world to be learning about their whole selves-with both academic rigor and taking care of their hearts and souls.
