Beginning orchestra students frequently struggle to play with correct form and posture, which creates frustration and discouragement. By giving them a shoulder rest, it helps them comfortably hold their instrument the correct way, enabling them to play with ease while learning a complicated new set up. When student's feel comfortable in their set up, their are more motivated to continue to try new and challenging things on their instruments. These students are currently using sponges which help fix the problem short term, but does not promote a long term solution or the correct form. Having these shoulder rests will make my student's orchestra experience more positive and encouraging by allowing the students to be physically comfortable while learning new skills on their instruments.
