As the Media Clerk for grades K-8, I see a wide variety of reading abilities. The common thread? All of the students want to be strong readers, even if they aren't there yet. We are lucky to have several community partners that provide regular volunteers to come in and help students with their academic growth. As great as our volunteers are, however, it's hard to be effective long term with limited resources. We want to set our students up for success outside of a standard classroom setting, and providing them with the resources at a young age to master their reading skills will do just that! By using games and interactive lessons, we are better able to serve all students and reach a variety of learning styles. We have a large population of ELL students who are working hard to make gains each year. Research shows that embedding content into games is one of the most effective ways for kids to learn. These reading comprehension games will help set our volunteers up to have every minute of their time with students to be effective and impactful. I am excited to set up space in the library where every student that comes in will have a chance to grow and expand on their reading skills.
