A significant amount of my students are below grade level in reading. Several of my students are two grade levels or more in reading which is very concerning as students need to be able to read more complex text. Giving students high quality literature will help students be able to achieve grade level reading and writing goals. Last year, students made great progress towards reading goals due to being exposed to high quality literature that piqued interest and excitement. This year, I would like to offer my fourth graders the same opportunity. Many of my students have expressed that they do not like reading, so it is my belief that when we get students invested in reading, that they will become lifelong readers and writers.
