The center of any successful Kindergarten classroom is the classroom rug. The classroom rug is used to bring together the community for instruction, but also for discussion and celebration. Additionally, rugs with designated spaces and cubbies for folders are essential in giving students their own space for their bodies and property. Cubbies will be built into their morning and afternoon routines so that they can have a space to place their books to take home, communication logs for families, and classwork they are proud of and want to show their families. Both of these main classroom accessories will help build community and the space for learners to be together. I also ask for a rug for the classroom library so that the space feels inviting and students will feel comfortable while they discover new books to read and grow their love for reading.
