I have taught second grade for seven years and found resources such as BrainPop and Scholastic News essential to their education. These programs were always paid for by our PTO or our school district. However, moving into a new school and state that does not have these materials available makes me want to provide my students with these amazing resources as well! I value teaching critical thinking skills and the ability to question "why," and I believe with these resources I can better teach my students these skills. If my students have the opportunity to learn about life going on around them through engaging literature or more easily understand a concept through educational videos and resources I want to give that to them. Videos in BrainPop really help break down literacy, and historical concepts that a mandated curriculum or youtube videos cannot do. The videos are engaging and well thought out, and it helps reach my visual learners. In addition, Scholastic News is another great resource that will emphasize standards in a more engaging way. I have used this resource in the past and found my students loved the higher level thinking projects this program provides.
