My students are in desperate need of better science materials in the classroom. Many of our permanent science materials were gifted to us many years ago and don't match our needs. Currently we have about 5 microscopes for over 300 biology, anatomy, and AP biology students. We need more! I am asking for 6 additional microscopes to have a total of 11. This allows for approximately 3 students per microscope in our average class size of 35 students. Through this project, students would be able to access a number of laboratory exercises in all three life science classes offered at our school. For biology, freshman will be engaged in a variety of activities to spark their interest in life sciences. In anatomy and physiology, students will be able to visualize their own cells, as well as premade slides of human tissues in order to better understand the body. In AP biology, students will engage in a variety of labs and lab practices that make them college ready. These microscopes will help students learn for years to come.
