Hands-on opportunities to build in kindergarten are a cornerstone of personalized learning. My students will use these STEM items in stations around the room to work on community and team-building as well as science and problem-solving. Building blocks will facilitate architecture and engineering; creating a roller coaster will help me teach about gravity and laws of motion. Manipulatives also will help with reading and writing by providing tools for modeling. To be hands-on exploring is also sensory input for young learners, which helps keep kids calm as they work. Having opportunities for students to choose is an empowering aspect of personalized learning. Having the supplies will help me to facilitate that in my room.
