My students love to express themselves when they are talking, but applying that to paper can be a real struggle. Hands-on materials, like LEGO block, big easels, and big paper puts a different kind of spark in each one of them. Not only that, who doesn't love dry erase markers? When the students are able to express themselves through their creativity, their learning is sparked and energized in a way that differs from just sitting down to read or write. Items that can be used in reading, writing, and math are beneficial to each student and brings something a little different to each one. What they take away from their learning, when they're energized, makes teaching so much more rewarding.
