I've noticed my students like rope lighting in their rooms from the photos of their work they submit online. I currently have LED holiday lights hung in my classroom, but they don't give off enough light to turn the overhead lights off and still see well enough to write notes and do classwork. I would also like to add some tropical green foliage to the classroom, bringing some of the outdoors inside. The addition of rope lighting, a couple torchiere style lights in the back of the room, and some houseplants will help my classroom feel more like a warm safe space for students to be. The alternate lighting will have a cooler tone than traditional overhead fluorescent lights. The houseplants will aid in improving the mood of the students and reduce anxiety - something students are dealing with on a daily basis. The shelves requested in this project are to be randomly placed around the room allowing for the plants to be spread out without the fear of taking up precious desk space or being accidentally knocked over.
