I'd love the opportunity to do a fun science project with my students this year. Research-based evidence shows clearly that students need to not only be involved in their learning with their hands (manipulatives), but that they should also have fun with their learning! I'd like to grow crystals with my students this year to show them how to apply the process skills of scientific inquiry through experimentation. The students will construct a crystal growth model recording specific behaviors, stages and results. Beforehand they will construct a hypothesis about their models and compare them to real outcomes. In addition, manipulatives will help them with their reasoning and logic while learning some of the harder math concepts.
