Starting at the second half of first year Spanish, students will begin reading books in class during FVR (Free Voluntary Reading). It is so exciting to see the students surprise themselves with how much they are able to understand. All levels of students with all types of interest will be able to find something that taps into their passions while challenging them at the right level for where they are. Several times a week, students will have the freedom to choose the right book for their level and interests, and they will have that serene time of "flow" where they can lose themselves in a good book; they are often so interested in their books that they don't even realize how much language they're acquiring! Many of my students were born in our city and have never traveled out of the state, let alone the country. These books will build on all that we are doing in class to help these students become global citizens.
