With a push toward instituting accountable, independent reading, our district has implemented a program (A.I.R.) to teach students the love of reading. Unfortunately, funds are short and we are building our classroom libraries on our own. This project will enable me to have meaningful conversations with my students about the books they choose to read. I read them first so we can have our "Lit Chat Time" daily. Students will share their experiences and thoughts about the books they choose. The books chosen will serve students with many different reading levels and help them understand and be sympathetic to others who are different than they. Students will share via many different ways. A selfie station will be set up and students may use their pictures and hash tags to describe the scenario where they are in their chosen book. A "one pager" activity will be used to assess the students' understanding of their book.
