A class set of djembes will give each student the chance to learn about different rhythmic patterns in music. From the difference of duple and triple meter, to rhythmic motifs, student will be able to hear, see, and play these rhythms. Differentiating these rhythmic ideas separate from the melodic line is essential for mastering the mathematical side of music making. Djembes give students a tangible connection to different cultures around the world. Playing drums of various sizes, shapes, and materials is found all around the world. These djembes will give our class the tools to start a cultural dialogue through the avenue of music. By learning about these different cultures, students can see how music brings us all together in different ways and teaches just how similar we can all be. Djembes are an accessible instrument for all age groups to master. These djembes are light weight and accessible for students of all needs, as they do not require the ground or mallets for resonance. Drum circles, and the homorhythmic qualities of drum circles, in addition to their warm sound, create a calming connection to people of all backgrounds.
