In 1st grade the students need a lot of hands-on experience as well as a lot of teacher instruction. Because it is difficult to keep the attention of 26 students during a lesson, I need to have fun hands-on activities for the students to work on without teacher instruction while I work with students in small groups. Struggling students need to feel successful while they learn from hands-on activities at their own level. Having a variety of activities for the students to do on their own will allow them to stay engaged and learn from each other. They will have a sense of accomplishment while having fun.
