The ABC Puzzles that I would like to use in my classroom will give the students and opportunity to learn the letters of the alphabet while they are using their fine motor skills. They will also be able to look at the pictures and enhance their vocabulary by saying the word and identifying the letter and sound it starts it. Students will work cooperatively in a literacy center making the connections between letters and sounds. They will work together to complete the puzzle while saying the letter names and sounds. They will begin to understand that letter sounds create words. This would also be a great calming center for students who need to take a time out to process. Students can sit in an area of the room where they can use their hands to manipulate the puzzle pieces. Research shows that students with anger issues, ADHD, ADD need to have something in their hands to manipulate when they are feeling anxious.
