We have the worlds only bagpipe band made up of students with disabilities, so -- we decided we'd like to use our new Makerbot 3D printer the school has to build our own sets of smallpipes to practice and play with. We are requesting filament to build our bagpipes. We can open up our program to even more students this way. Music with special education kids teaches SO many great skills -- counting, rhythm, discipline and practice, plus its just plain fun. We will be printing them off, piece by piece, and then not only is the end result to play them--but BUILD them. This way the students learn to follow directions, carefully apply glue, fit pieces, and essentially learn how to do jobs that require concentration, skill, and repetition. The fact they get to use the Makerbot and the computer fills in many learning styles as well.
