Over the summer, a flood impacted our district. The Pre-K students have their own space in my classroom and the painted floor cloth they used was destroyed by water. As a result, the students are sitting on the floor. Having a comfortable space for seating creates an atmosphere of learning and defines the space for movement and for listening. The music symbols on the rug correspond with my curriculum and provide image recognition for my young students. As the students learn about music, they can associate the images on the smart board with the images on their rug. The bright colors engage them and keep them interested.
