Over decades of research, particularly in this age of social media and technology use, it is clear that students desperately need more time to read books! In the classroom, students will benefit from being given more class time to read, access to books they are interested in reading, and quality instruction. Success in reading is built on engagement! Engagement leads to an increased volume of reading - the necessary foundation for tackling complex texts. In our classroom, students will benefit from having access to a rich supply of texts they choose to read independently, in book club groups with their peers, or with the whole class. Students who read regularly will grow as readers, develop an extensive vocabulary, gain stamina (especially needed, if they are college-bound), think critically, and write more effectively. Supporting students in reading will support their future success in a variety of fields and disciplines. Please partner with me in this endeavor! Thank you!
