Students love learning guitar and collaborating on performances. Last year 6th grade students performed a song on guitar and recorders for the annual leadership day. Two years ago 5th grade students performed a sing-a-long for the kindergartners. Students were able to work in groups to practice a song of their choice. A strong music program benefits students in other academic areas and develops important life skills. Learning to play guitars provides opportunities for learning musical concepts such as chords, rhythms, note reading, and more. It also helps prepare then for future opportunities in band and the district's mariachi program. I have spent the last 2 years fixing and accumulating enough guitars to have one class set. With this last addition to the classroom each student will have a working guitar!
