We will use the sheep hearts and dissecting equipment to explore the cardiovascular system. After studying on paper and computer simulations, students will examine a real heart. Students will get a deeper understanding of body systems with this hands-on activity. There is no substitute for examining, probing, touching a real heart. As we all know from our own middle school experiences, this is an activity the students will always remember. It is gratifying to watch students who wanted no part of dissecting anything be overcome by their curiosity and wonder. I hope they will gain confidence and become more curious as they participate in this activity.
