My very bright and talented resource students crave more books that are of high interest, age appropriate, and most important, at their reading level. Most of my students are reading 2 years below their grade level. With this gap, most of my upper elementary students can only independently read books that are what they refer to as "Too Baby." These Hi/Lo books will give my students the opportunity to actually find books that they will want to read and help remedy the reluctancy I see from them everyday when it comes to reading books. I want nothing more than to motivate my struggling readers by giving them access to books on topics that they will find engaging. Giving them access to these books can help build fluency, vocabulary, background knowledge, and over all help increase their interest in reading.
